A simple shape change forces a man-down defense to completely rewrite their responsibilities on the fly. Going from two crease threats to none flips the job of the middle defender, overloads the outside, and pushes communication to its breaking point—all without the offense running a single play.
In an open set with two triangles, a dodger at X creates space by attacking the goal while one adjacent player cuts to the crease and the other rotates to X for a rollback option. This setup ensures scoring opportunities through quick passes, open midfield shots, or an uncontested dodge if no slide comes.
Transitioning from a 1-4-1 to a 2-2-2 open offense confuses defensive slide packages by removing players from the crease, making it harder for defenders to anticipate responsibilities. This shift also positions all offensive players as scoring threats above GLE, maximizing space and creating diverse shooting options.
This a great offensive set if you want to run a two man game from up top or behind without having anybody in the crease thereby opening up space and making slides more complicated.
