1-3-2 Step Down Shooting Drill
This shooting drill helps players develop step-down shooting within the 1-3-2 offense. Rather than focusing on dodging, the emphasis is on passing technique, timing, and being ready to shoot immediately after receiving the ball.
The drill begins with the feeder positioned near goal line extended. As they move into position, they make a banana cut toward the second cone before delivering a pass to the shooter up top.
The shooter should already be set in a triple-threat position before the pass arrives. With their shoulders aligned to the target, hands away from the body, and eyes on the goal, they're prepared to catch and immediately step into a shot.
Coaching Points
Execute a clean banana cut before feeding the ball.
Deliver accurate passes to the shooter's outside shoulder.
Catch the ball in a balanced triple-threat position.
Step directly into the shot without unnecessary movement.
Drive through the shot with full extension and proper follow-through.
Although the shooter has options to pass, dodge, or attack, the primary focus of this drill is developing a quick, accurate catch-and-shoot step-down shot.
