• Never wait for the attacker; initiate the movement.
• Approach the attacker at an angle, not directly, to funnel them where you want them to go (preferably to their weak side).
• Get about a stick’s length away from the attacker. Too close can cause a foul, too far gives them space to attack.
• As you get close to the attacker, break down your steps (chop your feet) to maintain control and stay in a strong defensive position.
