Inside player movement is essential to beating a zone. If the inside players remain stationary, defenders can protect an area while keeping both the ball and their assignments in view.
Inside players should cut through the seams, screen defenders, and rotate into open space. Each movement forces the defense to communicate, exchange responsibilities, and decide whether to follow the cutter or remain in its assigned area.
The first cutter may not receive the ball, but her movement can create an opening for the player behind her. As the zone shifts and collapses, the offense can attack with an inside feed, a quick cut, or an open shot from the perimeter.
