Set up the “umbrella” Mark five positions around the offensive perimeter: top center, top left, top right, left wing, and right wing. Use cones or offensive players to represent each point, forming a half-circle or umbrella shape.
Assign defenders Place a defender at each of the five points. Their job is to stay between the ball and the goal, maintaining strong positioning and active communication.
Simulate ball movement Offensive players pass the ball around the perimeter. Defenders adjust accordingly, shifting their body and footwork to push the ball-carrier toward the sideline, never the middle.
Add dodging and help defense As the drill progresses, allow light dodging attempts. Defenders must now read when to slide, when to recover, and how to work as a unit to deny the most dangerous spaces.
