This is the old school way to teach fast breaks. It practices offensive ball movement and defensive rotations movements in a classic 4- on-3 fastbreak. The trailer ensures the offense has a sense of urgency which is much more like a live game fast break. It is good to start by teaching the basic set up and ball movement for the offense and positions for the defense.. But as soon as possible you want to progress to a drill where the players are not already starting in the fast break positions.
Start three attackmen, and three defensemen and a goalie at one end of the field set up in the propper fast break formation.
Start a line of offensive midfielders and a line of defensive midfielders at the midfield.
The coach will pass the ball to the offensive midfielder as starts the fast break to play out a 4-on-3 situation.
