The Benefits of Using Your Eyes to Freeze the SlideIn lacrosse, attackers are constantly under pressure from defenders and slides. The ability to control defenders with your eyes is a subtle yet highly effective skill. By keeping your head up and focusing on the slide defender, you can create hesitation and buy yourself valuable seconds to make the right play.

For example, when an offensive player comes out of a split dodge and keeps their eyes locked on the slide defender, it forces the defense to pause, unsure whether to commit or hold position. That hesitation gives the ball carrier time to decide between shooting, feeding inside, or moving the ball across the field. The main benefits of this skill include:

More Time on Offense – Freezing the slide slows down the defense and allows the attacker to process options calmly.

Better Decision-Making – With extra time, the player can choose the smartest option: shoot, pass inside, or swing the ball.
