Why This Practice Plan Works
This youth girls’ lacrosse training plan focuses on developing stick control, passing accuracy, and decision-making on the move. Designed with a progressive structure, this session allows players to practice core skills in realistic settings, promoting teamwork, communication, and execution under pressure.
The session begins with the Dynamic Rondo Drill, a lacrosse adaptation of a classic soccer activity. From the first minute, players work on coordination, passing accuracy, and decision-making in tight spaces. This dynamic start activates both body and mind while setting the tone for the rest of practice.
Next is the Passing and Rotation Movement drill, reinforcing core passing skills. Players focus on clean passing, controlled catching, and constant movement. It also emphasizes both verbal and non-verbal communication—critical in game situations.
Then comes The Zipper Drill, which strengthens stick control by focusing on hand switching using techniques like the roll dodge and split dodge. This segment is key for improving offensive fluidity, ball protection, and quick skill execution on the run.
The 3v3 Women’s Lacrosse Drill brings all those skills into a competitive context. Small-sided play requires quick movement, teammate awareness, active defense, and rapid decision-making. It’s ideal for building tactical thinking, teamwork, and execution under pressure.
The session concludes with Pass, Pass, Cut and Shoot, an exercise that brings it all together: ball movement, off-ball cuts, and finishing on the move. Players must read the play, move without the ball, pass with intent, and finish accurately.
Overall, this is an excellent session because it combines technical work, tactical thinking, and real-game application. The activities constantly challenge players to perform under pressure and work as a team. Small-sided games and functional drills ensure that everything learned directly applies to gameplay.
This session is perfect for coaches looking to strengthen fundamentals while getting their players thinking, moving, and competing.
