Two-Hour High School Boys’ Lacrosse Practice Plan: Building Skill, Stamina, and Strategy

Here’s a two-hour practice plan designed to build skill, stamina, and game strategy for a high school boys’ lacrosse team, it does not incorperate specific skills such as facing off, shooting or other important details of the game. This more of a generic practice plan that can be used across the board without having a lot of staff to help run practice. We will add other practice plans that work on some specific skills essential to men’s lacrosse.

0-10 minutes: Warm-Ups & Dynamic Stretching

Objective: Loosen muscles, increase mobility, and prepare for an intense practice.

Activities:

• Jogging laps (2-3 minutes).

• Dynamic stretches (high knees, butt kicks, lunges with twists, leg swings).

• Quick ladder drills to engage footwork.

10-20 minutes: Stick Work

Objective: Improve catching and throwing fundamentals

40-60 minutes: Fast Break Drill

• Emphasize making smart passes, looking for the open man, and finishing strong at the goal.

• Rotate defense and offense regularly to keep players involved and in game scenarios.

60-90 minutes: Clearing and riding

Objective: Working on clears and rides is essential in lacrosse because clears help transition the ball from defense to offense, allowing your team to maintain possession and create scoring opportunities. Rides, on the other hand, are critical for pressuring the opposing team’s clears, aiming to force turnovers and quickly regain possession. Together, they strengthen team cohesion and give you control over key momentum-shifting moments in a game.

90-120 minutes: Game Tactics (6v6 Scrimmage)

Objective: Teaching lacrosse game strategy involves guiding players on positioning, timing, and situational awareness to maximize team effectiveness on offense and defense.

Situational Plays: Finish with time-based scenarios (e.g., 1-minute drill) where teams practice playing with a lead or pushing for a quick score.

Wrap-Up:

Brief Team Discussion (2-3 minutes): Review what went well, areas to focus on, and goals for the next practice.

Cool-Down Stretches (5 minutes): Static stretches, focusing on recovery.

This practice plan combines skills, intensity, and game strategy, offering a balanced, productive practice.
