Alley Dodge Pick

Preview

The ball carrier comes from behind the cage, drives to the 5-and-5, and passes up to the midfielder. He then immediately sets a pick for the midfielder, who attacks the alley and comes off the pick for a shot..

Why this works:

  • The 5-and-5 pass creates an immediate advantage — The defense is stuffed in as the ball carrier is in a threatening position to pass or shoot.

  • Very difficult to slide to — An alley dodge would call for an adjacent slide, but with the adjacent player setting a pick he makes it very complicated for the defense to know who would have help responsibility. For a defender in the crease this is an extremely awkward angle for them to come help from

  • The alley dodge is one of the highest-percentage shooting lanes — a midfielder coming downhill off a pick in the alley generates power and angle on the shot and is a conventiaionl shot that is practiced over and over again.
