3 Groups of 2 From Top to Bottom
Take your basic 2-2-2 set and envision in 3 sets of 2's. The goal is to have each set of two working together as a team within the team. The thinking here is that it is easier to get in sync with one other person rather than 5 others.
You can have 2 great dodging attackman who operate from behind with one who is a great scorer from the crease.
Benefits:
- Very easy to practice as they can practice the two man game in small groups.
- You can easily change one player for another without disrupting the entire system
- A very simple concept to teach.
- This a great concept to avoid a talented defensive player. Bringing him to the crease and forcing him to fight through picks on the crease can cause a lot of frustration for some very talented defenseman.
Off ball constantly trying to help your partner get open by setting picks, slip picks, fake picks, moving, whatever it takes.
If you are the two players in the crease this will mess up the slides and open up quick stick opportunities.
For the players on the other side this will ensure you can be open as an outlet, for a step down dodge or in a great position to re-dodge.
On ball the two players should understand when to pick for the partner, clear out or be an outlet and understand two man game principles.
When a player clears out to the crease that will give a 3 crease look to the defense
On the dodge the partner of the player dodging will fade back to be an outlet.
With a little bit of gamesmanship and lacrosse IQ the crease men can fill in to the seems to give the illusion of a different set. This is especially effective against zones or on man up, having a player pop up into a soft spot.
