4 man rotation with a shut off

You are man down on defense and If you can take out one player, then you have ruined their man-up.  How many teams, especially at the lower levels have one player that can make or break the whole offense.  This concept is designed to take that player out of the mix when you are down.

The concept here is to take out their best player with your short stick and run a rotating box with your long poles.

The guys being shut off can do a number of things, regardless it can really make it difficult for them to run scripted plays and it can force a player who is not accustomed to the role taking the shot or making the assist.

Typically the player being shut off will do one of the following:

  • Take himself completely out of the play and go either going to the end line to be closest to the line on a shot

  • Go to the top of the box to be ready to ride and recover the ball in case of a change of possession.

  • Go to the crease to remain a threat

  • Set picks for a teammate

  • V cut to get open in the framework of the normal offense
